Incidents of workplace violence are frequently the culmination of events that had been brewing over a period of time. When the warning signs of workplace violence are observed, we work with the organization to ensure the safety of personnel and facilities.
We explore the many options available for managing difficult cases and set forth steps we feel should be taken.P.O. Box 13628

Between 1993 and 1999 in the United States, an average of 1.7 million violent victimizations per year were committed against persons age 12 or older who were at work or on duty, according to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). In addition to the nonfatal violence measured by the NCVS, about 900 work-related homicides occurred annually. Workplace violence accounted for 18% of all violent crime during the 7-year period.
Almost four of every ten robberies occurring while the victim was at work or on duty were committed against persons in retail or transportation. More than 80% of all workplace homicides were committed with a firearm. The majority of workplace violent incidents, almost 19 of 20 were aggravated or simple assaults. (U.S. Department of
Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Crime Victimization Survey, December 2001)

Difficult Terminations
“You haven’t heard the last of me!”
Employers have one primary power over employees: the power to fire. Once that is exercised, a power shift takes place. The terminated employee no longer feels bound by the rules and policies of the company. The terminated employee is not the same person after the firing as before, and often, employees are afraid that a difficult firing might include threats of violence.
We develop specific plans for difficult terminations. What is the best day of the week? Is there a better time of day? Who should be present? Who should not be present? Do we notify the police?
We work with organizations to minimize the odds of a situation escalating to violence through careful planning and by using proactive security measures.
